Common questions

My apps didn't lock this morning.

Ante needs Screen Time permission to shield apps. Open Settings → Screen Time and confirm it is on, then open Ante and check that your wake time and app selection are set. Ante locks an hour before the time you gave it, so the apps are already shut when your alarm goes off. If you denied the permission when you first installed Ante, you'll need to grant it in Settings before the lock can arm.

How do I unlock my apps?

Open Ante, spin the wheel, and complete the exercise it gives you. Your apps unlock for the rest of the day as soon as you finish the set. There's no way to unlock by waiting — that's the point.

The camera isn't counting my reps.

Prop your phone up so your whole body is in frame, a couple of metres back, in reasonable light. Ante tells you when it can't see you. A plain background and clothes that contrast with the wall help. If it still won't count, email us and tell us which exercise it was.

What are Passes?

A Pass lets you skip one morning without losing your streak. You start with none: the first is earned after ten mornings in a row that you actually moved for, and one more every ten after that, up to two saved at a time. Passes are never sold — you can only earn them.

My apps are still blocked after I deleted Ante.

This is a rare bug in Apple's Screen Time system rather than something Ante can prevent: the restrictions it asked for can outlive the app, and once the app is gone there is nothing left to clear them. Every app in this category runs into it. Try these in order:

  1. Open Settings → Screen Time → Apps With Screen Time Access and turn Ante off. iOS lifts every restriction the moment you do. If Ante is not listed, carry on to the next step.
  2. Reinstall Ante, grant Screen Time when it asks, and finish one morning. Clearing the lock the normal way clears the stuck one too.
  3. Open Settings → Screen Time → Always Allowed, add the apps that are still blocked, close Settings completely, reopen it, and remove them again. You can repeat this a few times; it shakes the restriction loose.
  4. If you have another screen time app installed, remove it. Two of them can hold restrictions against each other.

Still stuck? Email us and we'll help, and you can also report a Screen Time issue to Apple Support.

To avoid it: before deleting Ante, turn its Screen Time access off in Settings first. That clears everything, and then the app is safe to remove.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they're cancelled through Apple: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Ante, and tap Cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

I paid but Ante says I'm not subscribed.

Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with, then use Restore Purchases in the app. If that doesn't fix it, email us — include the date of purchase and we'll sort it out.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund for the purchase.

How do I delete my data?

Your streak, your sessions, your Passes and your app selection live on your phone, so deleting the app deletes all of them. Two things sit elsewhere: a record of how the app is used, filed under a random identifier with nothing attached to your name, and your subscription status at our payment provider. Email us for either and we'll take care of it. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Does Ante record video of me?

No. Frames are analysed on your device and are never saved or sent anywhere. Ante contains no code that uploads images or video. The privacy policy explains this in detail.
